Heartbreaker

This last weekend I spent working in Slave Lake . I had kindergarten and senior grad photos to take. One of the perks were a few family shoots thrown in. This little man is one of my favorite clients. He was a sweetie last year when I took his picture with his family. He is the son of one of the teachers and the darling of the whole school. This was evident to me as a horde of spectators came to watch him be photographed. It was so distracting that I had to shoo them away. I can't wait to see how he changes next year.

Colours of spring?

This is an old building known commonly as the chop bin that sits on our property and is a favorite hang out for squirrels . And by that fact is also a favorite haunt of the dogs who love to fraternise with said squirrels. Mostly a rundown old granary patched to extreme with different types of boards, and not too pretty to look at , but seen this way it makes me want to save it forever.

Where are they all coming from

As I was driving home the other day I am always vigilantly watching for deer and at this time of the year they blend in so well it is easy to miss them. Or I should say its easy to hit them , with your car. As I was watching to see if any of the herd was posing a threat to my car and my safety , I noticed more jet trails. There were five of them dispersing but they seemed to originate from the same area. Curious! As the direction they came from is not well populated it seemed strange that 5 would be taking off at the same time and why are they all going in different directions. Hmmmmm. it was pretty anyway so I thought I would share with you.
P.S. All the deer are safe.

Rite Of Spring

Every spring for the last few years I look forward to taking the best photo I can of this subject. I love the way the light reflects in the rivulets created by the farm machinery . I quite like this years version.

Leading Man

You may recognize this bull . He starred in another well known feature about a month ago. That posting was about an extreme weather phenomenon as well. That time it was a morning snow storm. I actually went out to capture the raindrops glistening from the trees . I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't seem to do it justice . On my disheartened trip back to the house I was stunned by the first rainbow of the year. It just says to me dont ever give up because what you get may be even better than the thing you thought you missed.

Riding off into the sunset.

This is one of the pics from yesterday's travels. I stopped on the road to capture this veiw and accidently fired a shot before it was composed. When I got home and looked at the pics I liked this one better than all the others I took the time to compose. Luckily I have the odd happy accident.

We all fall down.

I passed these graineries on a seldom used route home. I thought it was very peculiar how they are all collapsing the same way. Odd.

New Babies

I have been waiting for a good shot of a new baby to post and today was the day. We have 6 new ones soo.... that means 144 or so to go. Those ears are so soft and silky. It looks like spring is finally here.

Early in the day the first guests started to arrive in their Easter finery.

This little darling made those bunny ears at her daycare and wore them for much of the day.

New ground was explored . The explorations were led by Reese but Emily happily followed suit

The boat races were a runaway success!

And I hope I never become the kind of grandmother who doesn't think its fun to make a boat out of Styrofoam ,sail it down the muddy runoff , or sit on the floor and do a puzzle. I think one of my favorite rewards this Easter came as we walked back muddy, wet , cold , and happy to the house ready for baths and my granddaughter said to me " Grandma I smell like a wet human". Ah the riches of grand motherhood are great!

Ice Ice Baby!

This image reminded me of the pictures you see of icebergs taken on Alasken cruise ships and I just had to show you my icebergs in my back yard this morning.
And this must be my ice breaker ship the S.S. Mick

Sunny days

Even though I did not take this photo it seems to portray how am feeling today . This is my grand daughter Emily and myself floating in the pool last August. We have a four foot high pool that will comfortably hold several people. The pool really only gets used about 2 to 3 monthes but when the weather is nice I could live in it. The pool gets set up by the end of May and We like to have a pool party on the first of June. Anyone who lives here will know that the weather is not very warm by that time and the first time is like the polar bear swim that people do on New Years . But its a riot and we have a great time, if the cold water doesnt stop your heart. LOL

Orange

Today I went to the acupuncture place to try it for the first time. They had this orange tree . I think the leaves may have been made of jade. I wonder if the writing on the pot means "You are going to be our pincushion for the next hour" I think I felt things move that have not moved on two years. So I am crossing my fingers that this will be beneficial to me.

Some Kind of Sign?

As I was walking down my driveway yesterday I looked to the sky and was surprised to see what appeared to be a V in the sky. I'm not too sure if it was a naturally occurring cloud formation or if it was dispersing jet trails, either way it looks like its my day. It was about 2 hours before the sun went down , but the moon was visible as well.

Old Goat At The Market

I bet you thought I was talking about my husband. Well I was refering to the retired goat in the photo above . He doesnt go on the roof anymore but back in his heyday or should I say hay day this guy would spend the summer frolicing on the roof with all his friends. The market at Coombs is one of my favorite places. I cannot go to Vancouver Island without stopping for Quiche and general shopping for fresh farmers goods of all sorts. Its like a country mall with many little shops promoting the work of local artists and selling all sort of unique items.

The debate continues

This is a metal artwork by a Vancouver Island artist. I saw some pieces like this last year while vacationing there. I went home without buying one and it stayed in my mind for the whole year. I knew if I got back and I could still find them I would not make that mistake again. So now I am the proud owner of this sculpture and since it was untitled there has been much debate about whether they are ravens or crows. It would appear that even they are arguing about it.

Low Tide

One of the other sites that I like to see when I'm here us the arbutus trees. Canada's only deciduous evergreen tree. It's an interesting tree that seems to shed its bark instead of its leaves. ( the naked tree) This pic was taken minutes away from where we are staying . This is one of the nicest beaches around . Going home tomorrow and I know I'm going to miss it here.
