Pink Pearl

Last year I tried to get a full moon shot every month. I havn't been as dedicated this year but tonight there was a beautiful moon. It reminds me of a pearl nestled on pillow of clouds. Some of the names I have heard for an April full moon are Seed moon, Pink moon, Flower moon, and Growing moon. I think all the names have to do with the awakening of the plants in spring.

Butterflies are free

Today I packed a picnic for four and headed to the Annual Swan Festival. There we met up with Melodie and Lady Em. One of highlights of the day was Lucy the Clown.. a very talented face painting clown. The kids all stood on line to be tranformed into cows, dogs , tigers, and a lot of beautiful butterflies.

Ghost's

You know when someone you love dies, and later , you think you see them . Just a glimpse and your heart races... Then you remember that they are gone and your heart crashes. Today I saw the ghost of me... the girl I used to be. It has been so long, I wondered if it is too late . I feel so far removed from her . I miss her... and I want her back.

The Old Fashioned Way

The Idea of hard work and self suffciency is nothing new to these old boys. Floyd and his friend Marty have been working hard every day making lumber. Firing up the old sawmill is quite a task, it is heavy, sweaty, exhausting work. And though even though they come to the house at suppertime moving slower and groaning when they move, I can tell they have a sense of a good days work well done. P.S. the smell of sawdust is heavenly.

April Showers

Today was unseasonably warm. Perfect for the first weiner roast of the year. Taking fire precautions is important this time of year, and Valkrie was more than willing to help keep things watered down . What a wonderful day I had today.

Old Friends and New Aquaintances

The top photo is of an owl that we saw as we quadded back from our friends house about 6 miles from home. He was one of the larger owls that I have seen. We estimate him to be 18 to 20 inches tall. The next photo is a lovely portrait of our friends loyal pet. Daisy Mae. I remember when she was just a pups so many years ago. She is now almost totally blind , but still manages to find her way around the farm. P.S. Thanks for supper Judy, always love friday night pizza.

Spring Is Here

Today I decided to walk through the cows instead of taking the quad. It was warm , too warm for the vest I had on. The cows basking , the birds singing( not the racket that is the whole family but the soft sweet song reserved for springtime sweethearts) even the bees were busy buzzing around the pussy willows. The heady smell of willow sap filled me with joy. For the first time this season, I was aware of all the sights, sounds, and smells of spring. Even the tulips are showing promise. It made me forget my snuffles and just enjoy the day.

Spring Fever.

One of the nicest days so far. Oinker has been driving me crazy, in and out all day. She seems happy to be out as long as someone is with her. The late evening sun was perfect for just basking in. Soon it will be nice enough to spend the long days soaking up the sun.

Population explosion

Today is a fine spring day. A fine day to go to a farm auction according to my husband. This leaves me home tending cows. On my quad ride through the herd I noticed this fine calf. That is the way I like it. When I go out to check the calf is up, washed and mama is taking care of it, with no birthing trouble. I have my fingers crossed for the rest of the day.

Call it Serendipity

The clouds looming on the horizon held some promise of a colourful sunset , so I headed out for a drive. As the time got closer to sunset the clouds started to flatten to a boring sky... yeesh. Maybe I could find some swans, or the elk herd that had been hanging around the neighbourhood. I drove for an hour and started to come home dejected, when I thought I would just stop and see how much the creek at the end of our driveway had thawed. Was I surprised!! There was a very fat looking beaver having his supper. I managed to take a few shots as he was... well busy as a beaver. Sorry , I couldnt help myself. I was thrilled as the only times I have managed to take any shots of them they were like pose 2 .. swimming away. Which he did when he finally noticed his audience. I cant even tell you how often I set out to take pics of something and end up with something totally different and wonderful.. lucky me.
